Alberta Schutzhund Club

Visitors welcome!

Come check out the club and learn more about schutzhund (IPO) during one of our twice weekly training sessions. Dress for the weather, and bring your dog's favorite toys/treats. Ensure that your dog is crated or in your vehicle when not on the training field. It is recommended that your dog be up-to-date on their vaccinations before attending. Puppies under 6 months must have all current vaccinations. All dogs must be on leash at all times.

Please contact us to let us know that you’ll be visiting to ensure that someone will be available to greet you. A $10 donation is required for each visit.

Training sessions are held twice weekly during the outdoor season (usually May-October). Days and times may vary so be sure to email or Facebook message before dropping by. During the cold months, we train indoors in the comfort of a heated facility offsite. Our training methods focus on positive reinforcement and operant foundation training. We support those interested in schutzhund at all levels.

All breeds and mixed breeds are welcome. While most of us start foundation training with pups at 8 weeks old, mature dogs can also participate. Obedience is essential at any age. Tracking and protection training are optional, and dependent on your dog’s abilities.

Membership is considered once you’ve attended training a minimum of 3 times and have had the opportunity to see if schutzhund (IPO) is the right sport for you and your dog. There are no duties required with membership other than bringing a positive attitude and support for your fellow club members. The fee is $175/yr to join and includes the benefit of access to training equipment and training facilities. If you intend to compete in this sport, you must also obtain a membership with the GSSCC.
